I nostri vigneti nel Monferrato e nelle Langhe - Cantine Coppo, Canelli

THE COPPO ESTATE EXTENDS OVER APPROXIMATELY 80 HECTARES OF VINEYARDS, THE MAIN NUCLEI OF WHICH ARE LOCATED IN THE ALTO MONFERRATO ASTIGIANO AND LANGHE, PRIVILEGED AREAS IN THE PIEDMONTESE WINE-GROWING HERITAGE.

The quality of wine is created, first and foremost, in the vineyard: it is this belief that has guided the company for over a century. Each plot of land has been carefully chosen, searching for the terroir that would best enhance the characteristics of the grape variety planted, favouring the quality of the grapes over the quantity. The philosophy applied is simple: maximum respect for the vineyard, the soil and the surrounding environment.

MONFERRATO VINEYARDS

In the Canelli and Cassinasco area, in the Asti Langa, we grow the ancient and prized Moscato Bianco, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, from which we obtain our Alta Langa Classic Method Sparkling Wines. In the territories south of the province of Asti, in the areas of the Belbo and Bormida rivers, in Castelnuovo Calcea, Calosso and Cassinasco, the grapes for our renowned Chardonnay are grown.

The company’s most prestigious Barberas come from Nizza, Agliano Terme and Castelnuovo Calcea, in the heart of the Nizza sub-area, including the Pomorosso and the Riserva di Famiglia.

The company also runs the La Rocca estate in Serravalle Scrivia in the Monterotondo area, in the upper Monferrato of Alessandria, where we produce Gavi La Rocca obtained from Cortese grapes, one of the oldest native vine varieties in this region.

LANGHE VINEYARDS

By virtue of its historical significance, the winery is authorised by the Ministry of Agricultural Policies, as an exception to the rules, to vinify Barolo outside the designated area. Only a very small number of historic wineries are granted this privilege, and it is, in fact, necessary to prove that Barolo was vinified before the advent of the DOCG, the rules of which impose vinification within the production zone.
In addition to the historic plots, in recent years the company has acquired new vineyards in the Langhe, in some of the strategic crus for the production of Nebbiolo for Barolo and Barbaresco: the MGA Ravera in Novello, Bussia di Monforte d’Alba, the MGA Rive di La Morra and the Montersino Mention in San Rocco Seno d’Elvio.

SUSTAINABILITY

Sostenibilità - Cantine Coppo

Since 2001, Coppo has adhered to an official protocol of integrated agriculture that envisages the use of agronomic practices with a low environmental impact. Furthermore, for many years the company has decided to follow a philosophy attentive to the common principles of organic and biodynamic techniques, which provide for the greatest possible respect for the environment in which it operates. We practice grass cover with targeted operations in the under-rows and fertilization takes place using only organic compounds. In the fight against traditional vine diseases, traditional products such as sulfur and copper or preparations based on plant extracts and essential oils are preferably used.
Brassica, clover, field bean and barley are sown in the vineyard. Each of these species has special characteristics and qualities. Thanks to the green manuring technique, we are able to exploit their specific effects on the soil and the vines, in order to balance and increase their vitality. The aim is to create a hospitable environment for the vines, enabling them to defend themselves. In order to reduce the use of synthetic pesticides, we use pheromone, a natural substance capable of disorienting certain insects by causing sexual confusion and preventing them from reproducing.
